After many months our Community Centre re-opened again yesterday 23 June 2013. Huge crowds began to assemble early in anticipation of the grand opening and the excitement of seeing the building in its full glory once again,
The weather cleared and the sun shone down at 4pm as we began the countdown. A huge cheer went up when Michael Calvey cut the ribbon, announced that the centre was open and everyone was welcome. Eagerly all filed into the centre for the first glimpse of the new look centre and the appreciative looks said it all.
Fr Dan was master of ceremonies and after welcoming everyone he commenced with Blessing the Centre. Michael Calvey spoke in length about the work and ended by thanking all involved from committee to the workers, James Armstrong & Staff, David Ross, Sligo LEADER Partnership and the community at large.
Chris Gonly CEO of Sligo LEADER Partnership spoke of his admiration for the community to take on and complete the work and wished the community well in the new Centre.
Pat McCarrick was on hand to capture the cutting of the cake, which was created by Brendan O Hara. Michael also did the unveiling of the Plaque to symbolise the re-opening of the Centre and then everyone began to tour the building. All were impressed with the excellent work carried out throughout the building thus now providing a spacious centre available for all community events.
Music was then provided by Chris, Noel, Harry, John, Teresa & Dermot. Dancing, chat, and fun went on for the evening.
This is a very brief synopsis of what was a lovely historic day in Cloonacool for all ages. The community spirit is very much alive and the experience of once again being home in our centre will live on for a long time. Looking forward to seeing the centre a hive of activity now and into the future.
Thank you to everyone who has made the dream come true!!

“Working Together’ was the title of a letter sent to every household in Cloonacool Parish with a follow up visit by members of our Committee. The response was so positive and our visits received so courteously that we are completely overwhelmed! Sincere Thanks to everyone in the parish and in surrounding areas for your support to our Community Centre Refurbishment Fund.
